Big news: I’m running a Kickstarter!
The Japan Trip Planning Deck is a new way to plan your Japan trip. Use it to get the most out of your time in Tokyo, plan your trip together and discover new places to visit.
This is my second Kickstarter project; the first was for my Japan guide book, back in 2020, which was fully funded in 24 hours.
UPDATE 27/09/24: The Kickstarter’s fully funded already, so it’s definitely going into production. Thank you so much for your support!
If you’re in the EU, please click here. Kickstarter doesn’t handle EU import paperwork, so using this link will cost you less and you’ll receive your parcel quicker. This only applies to delivery to countries in the European Union.
Japan Trip Planning Deck
This is a project I’ve been working on for most of this year so far: planning everything out, designing the cards, researching and checking the details, testing the system, finding suppliers and checking samples. It’s been a huge amount of work, and I’m so excited to finally show it to you!
How to use it
Each card has an attraction in Tokyo. There are must-visit places, shopping areas, parks and gardens, cultural sites and fun activities like arcades and karaoke. There are also cards for day trips and different types of Japanese food – because they’re definitely part of the experience!
You can browse the cards for inspiration and to find new places to go, and sort them into your must-do’s and maybe’s.
Group places by location, and rearrange them to build a plan that works. Save time by finding what’s nearby, instead of zig-zagging across the city on the metro!
There are icons on the cards, making it easy to find what you’re looking for:
- Rainy day activities
- Free things to do
- What’s open in the evening
- Where’s good for food
Not sure what you need to book in advance? That’s on the cards too, plus details of how to get tickets.
Plan Together
It’s also a fun way to plan your trip together with who you’re travelling with. Make sure everyone’s must-do’s are included, and work out the best plan for you.
The cards are colour-coded, so you can easily make sure you have a good balance of different types of activities: attractions, shopping, culture and nature.
Essential Details in Your Pocket
Take the cards with you when you go to Japan, and you’ll have the important details you’ll need for each place.
Pocket Sized
The deck comes in two pocket-sized boxes, so it’s practical for travel, and you can take just the cards you need with you each day. Each set includes both boxes, and the complete set of cards with everything included.
Optional Add-on: 10 Blank Cards
If you want to customise the deck even more, there’s an option to add a set of 10 blank cards, that you can fill in with anywhere you come across when you’re planning. Maybe you’ve found a particular shop or restaurant you want to go to, or somewhere really niche – just write in the details and include it in your plans.
The blank cards are available as an add-on on Kickstarter. First select your reward tier, then you can add them to your basket.
How does Kickstarter work?
The deck’s available now on Kickstarter, which is a crowdfunding platform. If enough people pledge to buy the deck and it reaches it’s funding goal, it goes ahead! If not, you won’t be charged anything. The project runs until Friday 1st November 2024.
Update 27/09/24: The Kickstarter’s reached it’s goal already, so the decks will definitely be going into production in November!
When will I receive it?
Once the Kickstarter project finished, the cards will then be printed, and sent out early December 2024, in time for Christmas.
They’re available for worldwide shipping. I’ve kept shipping rates as low as possible.
Video
See more of what the deck’s like in my video. I hope you can see how high quality the cards are. They’re glossy, to make them more durable, with vibrant, colourful printing. They’re the size of standard playing cards: 63mm x 88mm (2.48” x 3.46”).
