Dates of Japanese Festivals in 2026
Every year I put a huge amount of time into researching Japanese festivals in the coming year, and checking all the dates.
There are so many festivals in Japan:
- Cherry blossom festivals
- Fire festivals
- Summer fireworks
- Matsuri at temples and shrines
- Lantern festivals
- … and many more!
Some of them are fascinating: did you know there’s a festival where people paint faces on their bellies, turning them into funny characters that perform dances? Or a ceremony for old embroidery needles, to honour their years of service?
Where there’s space, I’ve included a few words to explain what each festival is. You won’t believe there are so many!
Use the calendar to plan when you want to go to Japan, and to make sure you don’t miss out on any festivals when you’re there. Or just look them up at home and discover more about them!
Original Artwork
Each month has original artwork by Amy Crabtree of Cakes with Faces, featuring scenes from around Japan. The 2026 calendar will have all-new artwork (the photos are of previous years’ calendars, to show you what it’s like).
Each month has a small description with interesting facts to tell you more background information about it.
It’s a perfect gift for anyone who loves Japan!
Calendar Size
It’s a stapled wall calendar, that’s A3 size when it’s hung up on the wall (29.7cm x 42cm). There’s a hole so you can hang it up easily. Each page is full colour.
Updated Layout
Following your feedback, this year the calendar will have a slightly updated layout, with the festivals at the bottom, to give you more space to write on the calendar.

Usually the calendars sell out in December, before Christmas, so don’t leave it too late if you want one!
