US Shipping is Back!

Good news – US shipping is back!

Finally I have tariff rates from my shipping companies, and they’ve been implemented into the online shop. It’s taken a lot of time and effort, but I’m pleased to be able to ship to everyone again.

How Does it Work?

Tariffs are paid in advance, so you’ll pay them here at checkout. I’ll then pass them on to the shipping company when your parcel’s sent. This means there are no unexpected costs, and you won’t have to pay anything extra when your parcel’s delivered.

Cakes with Faces doesn’t keep any part of the tariffs. They go directly to the US government, via the shipping company.

Books are Exempt

The excellent news is that books are exempt from tariffs! So I’m very happy to say there’s nothing extra to pay for any books, including my Japan guide book, my mini guide to kawaii Tokyo or my recipe comic books.

How Much are Tariffs?

Tariffs vary by product type. They’re a percentage rate depending on the type of product and where it was manufactured. There’s also a flat rate handling charge from the delivery company.

Some items are exempt, like books, and some are just 10%. The highest are dresses and tunics, which are over 40%.

I can only apologise for this extra cost. It’s completely out of my control, and I have absolutely no choice in this. The only way I can continue shipping to the USA is to add tariffs to my prices.

How to Check the Cost

Prices in the online shop are shown without tariffs. They’re added at checkout, so here’s how to check them:

Add products to your cart.
Go the shopping cart.
In the “Shipping Calculator”, select “United States”.
Tariffs will be shown in the total.

For orders to Alaska and Hawaii:

Tariffs vary for Alaska and Hawaii because they’re sent by a different shipping company, with different handling charges.

Go the shopping cart.
Click “Proceed to checkout”.
Enter your country and state.
Tariffs will be shown in the total.

If the cost of tariffs is too high, check the totals at checkout. Some products have higher rates than others – they’re itemised in the total, so you can see which products have higher tariffs. If you have any questions, just send a message!
