From 29th August 2025, the de minimis exemption is removed, which means that all parcels arriving in the USA are subject to tariffs.
Tariffs Paid at Checkout
Tariffs are added at checkout, so you won’t receive a customs bill when you receive your parcel.
Cakes with Faces doesn’t receive any part of the tariffs. They go straight to the US government (via the shipping company when your parcel’s sent).
Books are Exempt!
The good news is that books are exempt from tariffs! So there’s no extra to pay on books.
How Much Are Tariffs?
Tariffs vary by product. Some items are exempt from tariffs, and some are just 10%. The highest are for dresses and tunics, at just over 40%.
If you have multiple items in your cart and the tariffs cost is too high, check the itemised total. Some products have higher tariff rates than others.
Alaska and Hawaii
Tariff rates are different for orders sent to Alaska and Hawaii. This is because they’re sent by a different shipping company. The company I use for most of the USA has an extra £30 surcharge (about $40.50) for “remote locations”, so I use a different company for these states.
Different shipping companies handle the tariffs differently, and their handling fees vary. (I realise this makes no sense, and I apologise!). So the cost of tariffs varies for orders sent to Alaska and Hawaii – and in some cases it’s lower.
To check the cost of tariffs on orders for Alaska and Hawaii, go the basket, click “Proceed to checkout”, enter your country and state, and the tariffs will be shown in the total. The shipping calculator on the Cart page is not correct for Alaska and Hawaii, you need to proceed to the Checkout page.
