I painted a record sleeve as part of Fused Magazine’s 12x 12 art project in aid of Oxjam Brum. Fused sent out blank record sleeves to paint or draw on, and re-imagine the record cover of a midlands artist. The artworks will be displayed in Birmingham as part of the Eye Candy festival, then auctioned to raise money for Oxjam.
I picked The Specials, because they’re from Coventry (which really is a ghost town!) and drew some cute ghosts. I used my favourite type of paints, acrylics and ink for some lovely thick outlines.
Apparently the club that’s mentioned in the song as being closed down is a club in Coventry that’s now the Central Library!
The Specials’ record cover is pretty spooky too, with a skeleton playing the piano, which is according to this website is based on an old Halloween record called “Sounds to Make you Shiver”!
