I’ll be having a mini stall at the Excelsior Award Ceremony 2019 at Trent College in Nottingham.
Excelsior Award
The Excelsior Award is a comic, manga and graphic novel reading scheme for teenagers. It’s run through schools; 9-18 year olds read a shortlist of books, then review and rate them.
The award’s divided into four age groups with a shortlist for each to suit each age range, from Key Stage 2 up to sixth form.
Excelsior Award Ceremony
The top-rated, winning books are announced at the award ceremony. It’s also a celebration of comics – in previous years there have been talks, a quiz and sometimes the students can even meet-and-greet comic book artists.
This year the award ceremony will be on Wednesday 19th June 2019 at Trent College in Nottingham (invitation only!).
As someone who loves books and reading, I’m really happy to support the scheme. I used to work in a library and a book shop, and I spent a lot of my time reading when I was at school, so it’s great to see so many young people who are so enthusiastic about comics.
When I’ve been to the ceremony in previous years, I’ve been so impressed at how much the students knew, and how passionate they are about the characters and comics they’d read!
