Aurora Borealis Dress
The Northern Lights dress has a pattern of colourful aurora borealis on a purple night sky background dotted with a galaxy of stars, and silhouettes of a magical forest of trees along the bottom hem.
This design’s been in the works for quite a while, and was put on the back burner while I concentrated on the Kickstarter for my Japan book. It went through a whole design process to get it just right. I had a total of six different samples made until I was happy with it. The final design has just the right balance of northern lights and colours. My earlier designs had lights on the top as well but it was too much, so in the end I decided to keep the top fairly simple and have the action on the skirt!
I also tried out various style of dress, including some with sleeves and different types of fabrics, but they just weren’t as flattering as this fit and flare style.
Skater Dress Style
The style is the same as the Cattoos dress and Starry Night. It’s really flattering and comfortable with cap sleeves, flaring out at a fairly high waist and just above knee length.
I wear the dresses all the time. They’re good for all occasions, including when you need to look smart for meetings, and you can dress them up for going out – and they’re also really comfy for casual wear.
Dress Sizes
The sizing’s fairly small, so check the measurements if you’re between sizes or large in the chest. The style is fit and flare, so the chest measurement’s the most important. The fabric’s stretchy for a comfortable fit.
