The theme of this year’s calendar is: Magical Japan. Just like last year, the calendar includes the dates of Japanese festivals and holidays, and the weather in each region. Use it to plan the best time to go, or just follow along for fun!

Magical Japan
The theme for the 2023 calendar is “Magical Japan”. There’s so much that’s magical about Japan! Each month includes colourful artwork and an interesting Japanese myth, legend or backstory. Many of them are seasonal – for example, the story behind a seasonal festival, or a legend from that time of year and why it’s celebrated.
The themes I’ve picked aren’t the obvious ones – and no repeats from last year’s calendar. Find out what’s special about each time of year!
Japanese Festivals and Holidays
Just like last year, the calendar includes the dates of festivals, holidays and events. There are so many all year round! Fireworks festivals in summer, snow festivals, winter illuminations and many more.
You can use it to plan the best time to go to Japan, so you don’t miss a fireworks festival by a few days, or to make sure you’re in the right place at the right time.
Even if you’re not planning a trip, it’s still interesting to follow along at home, and look up the festivals as they come along, to discover more about unique Japanese culture.
Weather in Japan
Each month also includes the weather in each region. As a guide, the weather’s included for Tokyo, Hokkaido and Okinawa. Japan’s a long country spanning various climates so you can see the extremes in each region. You’ll know when the snow melts in Hokkaido, when rainy season is and when’s peak time for typhoons.
Original Artwork
All the illustrations in the calendar are original Cakes with Faces artwork. They’re cute and colourful, highlighting all the magical things about Japan.
